ReFabrica's story really starts with the story of other manufacturers who make things using fabric. We discovered that most manufacturers want to be green - they really do! There are programs and processes to recycle and reuse many materials ... but nothing large scale for fabrics. Excess unused fabrics end up in the land fill - and there are a lot of unused fabric pieces left over after most products are made.

At ReFabrica we started working with furniture manufacturers. We started working together to gather up the bits and pieces of unused fabric before they hit the land fill. We reclaimed those bits and pieces. We started to make things with those bits and pieces.

'The ReGiftable Bag' was born. A reusable gift bag made from high quality reclaimed upholstery fabrics. Beautiful. Elegant. ReGiftable.

We know that most folks are already in the habit of reusing gift wrapping materials. In fact, paper gift bags usually get reused before they hit the recycle bin (or the garbage, heaven forbid!). But most often, paper gift bags get reused only once or twice before they start to look worn. Wrapping paper is rarely reusable after it has been taped around a present, and much of it can’t be recycled.

Some studies estimate that over $2 billion worth of gift wrapping materials end up in North American land fills every year.

We don’t have anything against paper gift bags - many of them are made from partially recycled papers. But most of them are also made offshore. There is a high carbon footprint incurred with recycling and shipping products to our shores - an environmental cost that is rarely reflected at the cash register.

Reusable? ReGiftable!

We love the idea of giving gifts that are beautiful and practical. We love the idea of proudly giving a gift that the new owner derives pleasure from, who then proudly passes it on as a gift to the next owner, who derives pleasure from the gift and then proudly passes it on to the next new owner, who ... well ... you get the picture! Think of it as 'paying it forward' - or more accurately - 'gifting it forward'.

No new fabrics were added to the planet to make The ReGiftable Bag. No energy consumed in recycling plants. No manufacturing offshore or shipping across the ocean. Just locally sourced materials that were sewn together locally. In fact, you are unlikely to see our bags made from the same fabric twice.
